You could also say that Between2Clouds is an experimentation of togetherness.
Over the past 6 years, we have brought to life well over 300 events including plenty of savvy dance parties, art galleries, stand up comedy shows, live music concerts, campouts, and combinations of these different mediums, and more. This is a project designed, curated, and organized by artists.
We have had the privilege of having thousands of folks (nearly 10,000), of every background you could imagine, spend some time with us.
We have also had the pleasure to book hundreds of different talented artists and performers,
with some touring artists too.
The fella writing this is 2dreamagain, the main curator of this project and one of the resident music artists and DJs. Most everything written or shared is by me, with the influence of my friends.
Between2Clouds was first my personal artist moniker. There is a beautiful, triumphant, and personal story to the name’s origin. It was the home to my hopes for myself to heal and to live a good life. The project has always been a reflection of this as well, but different than I imagined.
After our first event in our living room in the woods of Wake Forest, North Carolina in August of 2018, it quickly became something more. It was clear that I had to give up my artist name as people began to care and contribute to the idea as a collective effort. The more I learn and look back, the ideas that it came from were always meant for more than just myself.
By the 8th event, still in a living room, we had the manager of the local comedy club, a great band, and over 80 people show up on a Monday night. We started to get dozens of people to tune in to the live stream of this medley of creative ideas.
I can say confidently that when we started, and up to a couple years ago, we have had no idea what we were doing in about every way, but we did know that there was something special about bringing folks together with the intentions we have.
Within months of that first event, venues around the Raleigh and Durham area in North Carolina invited us to curate events in their spaces. Whatever opportunities were sent our way, we took. We never intended to do anything in a public venue. We never intended to throw parties. We never intended to charge tickets or make money. We just tried to do our best to pursue these opportunities and the ideas that came from them. I always loved stand up comedy as a fan, made thousands of playlists as a hobby, and everyone loves great art. One after another we involved different interests until we were creating these multi-faceted, multi-medium parties that kinda felt like mini festivals. Alongside that we started to do stand up comedy shows as venues continued to ask us to do so. Eventually, we had some long term ideas of our own, which we worked towards relentlessly. Nowadays, we focus mostly on the eclectic, art-fueled dance parties, being involved in festivals, and working on art projects we are inspired to pursue.
Building Between2Clouds has been my life’s purpose since quite near the beginning. I have put nearly all of my resources, time, effort, mental space, and energy into it over the years. My friends have contributed greatly to it existing and growing too. I would not have been able to work on it anywhere near as much without the support of my best friend, and favorite person on the planet, Nicolette. You may see her sharing music, boppin around, and giggling at our parties.
There have been many ups and downs, and that is putting it lightly. As my friend would say, “the highest highs and lowest lows” are involved the risk of pursuing passion. For those of you that have followed the project for awhile and are curious as to why we have not been as active, I have had to change my priority from the project to my health and wellbeing. I was always quietly battling an autoimmune disease that flared up viciously last year resulting in a hospitalization. I have been going through medical grade burnout. I also experienced one unfortunate circumstance after another caused by some bad luck, a small batch of folks making their problems my problems, and some of my own home-grown naivety to learn from. This lead to re-evaluating much in my life, which ultimately meant taking a break and changing how I spend my time. Fortunately, I have gotten some needed medical help and my health is improving, with a long ways to go. Nicolette has been taking this time to travel and is enjoying herself.
While we may not do just as many events as we used to, we now only take on the opportunities and ideas we think could be truly special. We do our best to make every experience and bit of beauty we share with you, overwhelmingly worthy of your time, your attention, your resources, and your presence. We care about every song played, every person we work with being wonderful, every environment being inspiring, and that we are constantly growing as people and creatives.
I believe I can speak for all of my friends when I say, we are humbled and truly honored for all we have been able to experience together, and we hope we can continue to do so.
If you have experienced an event of ours or enjoyed any creative content we have shared, thank you for all of it.
If you are looking forward to exploring a bit with us whether as a new or old friend, we promise to do our best to be the most abundant, compassionate, thoughtful, growth-oriented, adventurous, fun, and free people we can be, and we ask to give us that same humanity.
